Droylsden

In the mid-19th century, as a mill town Droylsden grew on the Ashton canal, in Lancashire. As for neighbouring Manchester it became an area for housing overflow, the population of Droylsden expanded, beginning in the early 1930s. Around AD 900, Droylsden was settled. It was referred to by Mancunians as "The Silly Country" before Droylsden became a part of Greater Manchester.

In Droylsden, in 1851, the terry towel - the world's towel that is machine woven - was produced by Sons of Fairfield Mills and W. M. Christy. To Manchester city centre's east by about (6 km) 4 miles, close to Clayton, Ashton-under-Lyne, Newton Heath, and Openshaw, Droylsden is at 53°28′58″N 2°9′30″W (53.4826, −2.1582). Providing a service to Manchester Piccadilly and Rose Hill Marple, Droylsden is not directly served by railway with the nearest station being Fairfield station 1 mile south of the town centre. For the schools by Droylsden Academy to be replaced, on the Secretary of State by 30 April 2009 signing an Agreement for Academy Funding this was conditional.

Including Big Droylsden, Little Droylsden, and Clayton, Droylsden was a township. Little Droylsden into Openshaw was subsumed, and, from Droylsden's control to become part of Manchester, Clayton was ceded in 1890. With of Ashton-under-Lyne, the remainder forming part, the areas adjacent to Manchester, including Droylsden, formed Droylsden constituency. As it became a housing overflow area for Manchester, Droylsden's population expanded during the 1930s.

In the Northern Premier League Division One North, Droylsden play. In November 1819, born in Droylsden was James Ellor. The Carpet King', Cyril Lord was born and raised in Droylsden. Since 1931, the Little Theatre of Droylsden has been running productions. For adult learners in Droylsden, Tameside College operates a Local Learning Centre.

When Droylsden became part of the Ashton-under-Lyne constituency, the Droylsden constituency was abolished in 1955. The Fairfield of Droylsden has been home to a Moravian Church since 1785. With a population of 22,689 at the 2011 Census, east of the city centre of Manchester by (6.6 km) 4.1 miles and west of Ashton-under-Lyne by (3.5 km) 2.2 miles, Droylsden is in Greater Manchester. Eric Evans MBE, rugby union captain from 1956 to 1958, was born in Droylsden in 1921.
